The Times Union in New York is closing two offices and sending journalists to work out in the field full time in a bid to save money and embrace a trend towards mobile journalism.
Rex Smith, editor of the Times Union, is reported on its website saying: “As our reporters work literally beyond the newsroom walls that might separate them from their stories, we think our reporting will be stronger.”
The Troy and Saratoga Springs bureau will close at the beginning of June. Reporters will be given HD flip video cameras and wireless netbooks so copy can be filed whilst out and about.
