Mobile devices have become the leading source of news for adults in the US, new data has shown.

A report published by the Pew Internet and American Life Project indicates that 47 per cent of adults in the US use a smartphone or other mobile device in order to access their local and national news.

The figures also show an increase in the number of adults who are looking to their smartphones and mobiles for day-to-day weather updates, social media activity and local information about businesses and restaurants.

It is evident that more and more people are relying on portable devices in order to access news. Mobile journalism is not only revolutionising the way that we report the news, but also the way that we access it. News apps for smartphones have made it much easier to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in any news story and it is therefore essential, that any mobile journalist do their best to report the news as and when it happens.

As more and more publications focus on their websites and mobile apps, it is clear that journalists must do their best to adapt to the changing times.

What do you all think about mobile phone apps? Do they signal the future of journalism or the end of journalism as we know it?
